Abstract     Depending on feeding season and physiological stage of the animals a total of 220 blood samples were analyzed for total serum cholesterol and triglycerides concentration. Mean total serum cholesterol values were statistically significantly different with regard to the physiological stage (P<0,001) and farms (P<0,01). In triglycerides values there were no statistically significant differences. Mean total serum cholesterol values were inversely correlated with triglycerides values. Season did not affect mean triglycerides and cholesterol values in blood of cows. Serum cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations showed great variability and were influenced by the diet and physiological stage. Measurement of total cholesterol and triglycerides in blood of dairy cows can be a valuable tool for assessment of the nutritional and metabolic problems. The interpretation of total serum cholesterol concentration vs. triglycerides concentration is according to our studies of greater prognostic value.
