Abstract     To combat the hyperlipemia syndrome in ponies a full understanding of the factors regulating the lipid levels in the body is essential. In this study methods were developed and adapted to measure the activities of the rate-limiting triglyceride-cleaving enzymes in equidae.- In isolated adipocytes the activity of the HSL was determined fluorometrically. Norepinephrine and adenosine deaminase stimulated whereas insulin inhibited the release of FFA into the medium. The postheparin plasma LPL showed an activity similar to that reported elsewhere (Watson et al. 1992), although the HTGL-activity was lower in this investigation. In order to increase the accuracy and the yield of measurements considerably a solid phase extraction procedure was introduced. The tissue LPL-activity was in the order of the values reported by Lithell and Boberg (I977, 1978).
