Abstract     The article favours the existence of a specific pattern of cognitive impairment in progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) consisting of cognitive slowing, impairment of executive functions and forgetfulness. The slowing of central processing in PSP patients is postulated to be due to striatofrontal dysfunction. PSP patients are also impaired in lexical and design fluency, motor series, sorting task, problem solving and abstract thinking, suggesting a dysexecutive sydrome. Memory function dependent on the integrity of the temporal lobes seem to be relatively preserved, but memory functions supposed to depend on the integrity of the frontal lobe are impaired in PSP.
Bolniki s PSP dosegajo slabše rezultate pri testih leksične in oblikovne zmožnosti, razvrščanja motoričnih serij, reševanja problemov in obstraktnega mišljenja, kar vse so značilnosti diseksekutivnega sindroma.
