Abstract		Chronic respiratory failure is mostly due to the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Since many patients will have chronically lowered. PaO2 levels and increased PaCO2 values, the diagnosis is based upon the degree of change from the usual state of the individual patient. Mechanical ventilation has its characteristics which should be considered in the management of patient with COPD.
