Abstract     Trends in epidemiology of the most important infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS, cholera, typhoid fever, diphtheria, and antimicrobial resistance to aminoglycosides, methicillin, penicillin, ampicillin, vancomycin and quinolones in Central and Eastern European countries after political, social and economical changes is presented. The incidence of HIV infection in comparison to Western Europe is relatively low, however, incidence of tuberculosis and diphtheria in some countries is increasing. Aminoglycoside resistance in Enterobacteriaceae and P. aerugionosa, methilicillin resistance in staphylococci, and penicillin resistance in pneumococci is increasing. Vancomycin resistance in enterococci within 1990-1995 is minimal.
