Abstract     The Atlas presents the zoonotic parasites recorded either as adults or as larvae, in humans and/or in animals in Croatia and/or Slovenia. A total of 40 species, comprising 7 species of protozoa, 24 of helminths and 9 of arthropods are discussed. Thery are illustrated in 137 figures, about half of them in colour. In additon, 4 tables in colour, showing the life cycle of 4 different parasites, are included. The illustrations have been provided by the authors, unless indicated otherwise. The captions (legends) to the figures and tables are given in Croatian, Slovenian and English. In the text preceding the illustrations, essential information is given on the morphology, life cycle, geographic distribution, source of infection and way of transmission, pathogenicity, diagnostics and control of each species. The literature mainly comprises the first records of each species in Croatia and/or Slovenia with a few additional references relevant to the items discussed. Between the discussed parasites there are considerable differences in terms of importance for public health or for animal husbandry, as well as in their prevalence and incidence. Thus, Echinococcus granulosus and Trichinella spiralis are regionally very important, especially for humms. Toxoplasma gondii is a serious pathogen, especially for pregnant women. it occurs also in various animals but seldom causes signs. Fasciola hepatica is not uncommon in domestic ruminants and Toxocara canis in dogs, but both parasites occur only sporadically in humans. Babesia parasites were considered specific to animals until the first human case in the world was diagnosed in 1957, in Croatia. Since that time, a few more human cases have been recorded. Several species of the parasites discussed have been recorded only in animals in Croatia and Slovenia. ( Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.).
