Abstract     The existence of cross-reactivity between proteins and linear peptides allows the immune sistem to be manipulated by the use of synthetic peptides. Synthetic peptides, belonging to linear segments of protein, are increasingly used for raising antipeptide antibodies able to cross-react with the complete molecule of native protein. The information about epitopes in toxins contributes to the study of toxic site and to the development of new synthetic peptide vaccines. This approach was used in the study of myotoxic site on ammodytin L toxin, isolated from the snake venom of Vipera ammodytes ammodytes. Our results indicate the approximate position of the toxic site on the molecule, confirming previous studies of myotoxicity on other toxins.
