Abstract		Article describes reasons and consequences of spinal injuries caused by diving accidents and falls in shallow water. Those injuries could cause lifetime invalidity. People hardly ever think about spinal injuries when they jump into water. Specific rescue operations and complications of spinal injuries are described. Since 1990 a special prevention program is going on in Slovenia to alert people of possible spinal injuries. The latest data show that in recept years only three persons suffered spinal cord injuries in such circumstances in Slovenia.
