Abstract		Determination of the acid base status as well as the status of oxygenation is extremely important procedure in medicine. The development of blood gas analysers is very exciting. Nowadays it is possible to measure together with acid base and oxygenation status also some electrolytes, glucose and lactate. Until recently, most attention has been focused on ensuring the quality of the blood gas analysis itself, which is now more reliable. Fare less attention was given to the pre-analytical phase. Mistakes in preparing sample device, sampling procedure, storage and transfer can lead to a great variability of laboratory results, fare more then can be raised from the analysis itself.
