Abstract     We have explored the performances of the Croatian and Slovenian general and clinical hospital systems with the public data on bed availability, bed occupancy, hospital discharges and patient deaths. The distribution of acute hospitals in both systems is presented in Barber-Johnson diagrams; bed use models in 1990, 1991 and 1995 of the two countries are compared. Barber-Johnson-Yates' scattergrams with turnover interval as an independent variable and length of stay as a dependent variable were two indicators of doctor's decisions about bed use. A network for bed trnover performance and bed emptiness readings were two indicators of the consequences of such decisions, and the ellipses drawn to delimit 95% of the hospital distribution across the system proved suitable for analysing a combined utilization of "warm beds" in an international comparison.
