Abstract     The symptoms and signs, diagnostic evaluation and treatment of the cracked tooth syndrome and complete vertical root fracture are presented. Analysis of 35 patients with an average age of 44.8 +- 16.6 years showed that 86% had received endodontic treatment and many had been provided with different restorations, such as metal posts, crowns or fillings. In 72%, occlusal forces were responsible for propagation of the crack. Thirty-one of 35 teeth required extraction. The results suggest that more attention should be paid to the prevention and early diagnosis of these conditions in the future.
