Abstract     Pendulum test is a simple test, but reliable enough to quantify muscle tone in spactic patients (1,23). It is based on the use of an electrogoniometer and electromyogram by which the knee joint angle of a lower leg swinging due to gravity can be recorded; associated reflex myoelectric activity can be recorded, as well. Thirty-five hemiplegic patients with clinical signs of quadriceps spasticity, between the ages of 18 and 77 years were included in the study. None of these patients had been using drugs to reduce spacticity. Different parameters as maximal angular velocity, maximal muscle activity were recorded. The measurements were repeated after four weeks. We wished to quantify the spasticity in knee extensors and evaluate the effects of one month physical therapy on knee extensors.
