Abstract     Stroke causes sudden and dramatic changes in life. Consequences of stroke in movement, perception, thinking, feeling and emotions cause experiences that are not compatibile with previous ones. Patient is acts as if he had been moved to a completely new world. He is oney getting aware of gradually the consequences. The process of confronting with the illness and its consequences is often very painful for the patient. Only therapists and relatives who understand this process can usefully help the patient. During the patient's recovery he must regain his self respect to be able to create strategies for coping with everyday life after stroke.
