Abstract     Patients who survived cerebrovascular insult are afflicted with various problems some of which being visible at first sight. They cannot walk or they walk with difficulty. They often cannot take care of themselves and depend on the assistance of other people. Marked difficulties are present in their speech. Problems associated with the comprehension of speech are less obvious though most frequent. In this paper the authors describe the effects of aphasia upon communication. They present the problems that have to be dealt with by the patient and his therapist and indicate some ways for easier and better communication at working with aphasic patients.
