Abstract     Bacground: Indications for radical prostatectomy in prostate cancer are described. The author find out that radical prostatectomy is one of the best methods to treat localized prostate cancer. We would like to introduce Both operative technics - suprapubic and perineal radical prostatectomy - and their basic characteristics are presented in the article. Results: From 1990 do 1995 24 radical prostatectomies were performed in three centers in Slovenia (Ljubljana, Maribor and Slovenj Gradec). In all cases suprapubic prostatectomy was performed and none of the patients died. After the operation we observed the state of ilness, continence and erection ability. 7 patients needed additional treatment (orchidectomy, Zoladex, Estracyt, Flucinom). 4 patients suffered stenosis of bladder neck and 5 patients had problems with continence. We don't have Exact data about erection ability for all patients, are not known. Conclusions: In spite of the small number od operations we can conclude that radical prostatectomy is one of the best methods for the treatment of localized prostate cancer. Mortality rate is zero, complications are rare and results are similar to the results of other countries.
