Abstract		The paper deals with 47 patients with prostatic carcinoma, diagnosed at the Department of Urology, University Medical Centre Ljubljana in 1990. Five years after treatment, there were 15 survivors (32%). A five-year survival by the histological pattern of the lesion was 87% in well differentiated carcinoma, 25% in moderately differentiated carcinoma and 16% in poorly differentiated neoplasms. Of the 47 patients with the diagnosis of prostatic cancer established in 1990, 33 had advanced-stage cancer with metastasis. All patients received hormonal therapy; 28 of them had additional bilateral orchidectomy. A 5-year survival was 18% (6 patients).
