Abstract | Family as the basic primary social group has an active influence of formulation and development of health behaviour, as well as on promotion of healthy life-style. Family and health are connected to (a) basic functions of a family, (b) social and psychological relationships within a family, (c) psychodynamics of family life, and (d) conditions and place of a family within the community. Family is important not only for alleviation of crisis situations, but one should always have in mind how to prevent them and how to train the family for an action. Positive behaviour motives, habits and attitudes, influence of the level of information and knowledge, the problem perception and the role of individual members are shown by the dynamics of family life, their potentials in preventive actions and indications for assistance and intervention by others. As an example of behaviour, the presentation shows (non-) smoking in a family. Social an cultural environment, together with the process of transformation of a family in contemporary society, lead to some essential changes in the life of family members in their homes, in school, at work, in other groups and communities. Actual possibilities and difficulties in the promotion of healthy life-style in relations towards family and within family are changing, thus raising at least two questions for discussion: (1) Could other primary communities substitute a family?, and (2) Could it be done by some other self-help or support groups? | |
