Abstract     Education for health was defined by theoreticians of nursing as the necessary part of interaction among a nurse and healthy or ill individual or group. Nurses have many resources for education of non-smoking generations. Nurses non-smokers and former smokers are more prepared to carry out health education activities of smoking prevention than nurses smokers. The preliminary results of a research study carried aut among students of nursing at the School of health studies in Ljubljana in 1994 indicated 20.4% prevalency. This is a problem, as it can, according to research findings, interfere with their activities to decrease or quit smoking among clients. The results showed, that students are aware of the health education role as 81% of them said, they alredy had influenced somebody to decrease or quit smoking. They reported to be partly successful in 54% and in 13% completly successful. The aim of the study is to asses the needs of a students and to plan health promotion activities according.
