Abstract     Laughter is an expression of the lips and face accompanied by mimicking and sounds provoked by lively amusement, while humour is the ability to perceive and enjoy the funny part of an event, i.e. a mental state usually in a good sense. Laughter, cheerfulness, smile, sense of humour, acceptance and creation of jokes, have all been studied and interpreted over the past thousands of years by philosophers, sociologists, psychologists, physicians, aestheticists. In short, the science enumerates the positive values of laughter and humour in different aspects: (1) physiology; (2) emotions and affections; (3) communication; (4) culture and society; (5) therapy and intervention. The researches have shown that one minute of violent laughter has the same effect as 30 to 45 minutes of mental and physical relaxation. Laughter is beneficial, healthy and a natural way of "shaking" our body, especially in promotion and maintenance of emotional health. Laughter is a natural phenomenon deriving from different emotional states, most frequently in funny situations as an expression of comfort and pleasure being generally beneficial for health. Opposite to anxiety and discomfort which repress and suppress us, laughter brings out all the hidden conflicts within us relieving us of these inner tensions and anxsieties. Therefore, laughter and crying have a similar task - to relieve a man of his inner tensions. Laughter is a collective, social act and the man who is laughing expresses his membership of the community. Laughter links up people, brings them closer, joins them and fulfills, pulls down barriers, disams and conquers. Laughter and humour are a part of the human interactions in the cultural and social contexts. In the extent to which one's sense of humour is developed there are great differences.
