| Abstract | In the first part of this article, basic professional nursing education (medicinska sestra) in Slovenia is compared with basic programs in countries of the European Union (EU). Points for comparison are taken from the Guidelines for EU nursing education. The second part of the article discusses academization of nursing education in greater Europe.
