Abstract		Background. Evaluation of the research efficiency at the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana is important for its general assessment. The evaluation has been based on the quality of scientific papers and on their citation. Methods and conclusions. The analysis was carred out by means of the research efficiency evaluation, developed by the Institute of Biomedical Informatics in Ljubljana, and included the period from 1986-96. Scientific papers were evaluated as to the journals which they published in, and congress papers as to the type of the congress where they were presented. The citation analysis was carried out by the SCI database on CD for the period from 1986-96. The results suggest that scientific papers of the Medical Faculty in Ljubljana are numerous, of high quality, and frequently cited. In other data, particularly on the invested work and means should be included in further analyses.
Summary		Izhodišča. Ocenjevanje raziskovalne uspešnosti Medicinske fakultete v Ljubljani je pomembno za oceno njene splošne uspešnosti. Ocena se opira na kvaliteto znanstvenih publikacij in na njihovo citiranost. Metode in zaključki. Analiza je bila opravljena s pomočjo sistema za vrednotenje raziskovalne uspešnosti, ki ga je razvil Inštitut za biomedicinsko informatiko v Ljubljani, zajela pa je obdobje 1986-96. Znanstveni članki so bili ocenjeni glede na revijo, v kateri so bili objavljeni, kongresni prispevki pa glede na vrsto kongresa, kjer so bili prezentirani. Analiza citiranosti je bila opravljena na zbirki SCI na kompaktnih diskih za obdobje 1986-96. Rezultati analize kažejo, da so znanstvene publikacije Medicinske fakultete v Ljubljani številne in kvalitetne, njihova citiranost pa pogostna. V nadaljnjo analizo bo treba vključiti še druge podatke, zlasti o vloženem delu in sredstvih.
