Abstract     In Slovenia the health statistics and record keeping are not completely adjusted to the international standards. In order to obtain the unification and rationalization of the health information system, as well as to meet the commitment of the Republic of Slovenia, regarding foreign countries, we will have to adjust to international standards as much as possible. Therefore we have already started introducing the European comparable classification of the activities (NACE) and we will introduce the European comparable classification of occupations (ISCO-88). We would like to continue making use of the international classification of diseases even more consistently than so far. To achieve this goal the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia has, in accordance with the Ministry of Health, started the project Translation of the Tenth Revision of International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD-10), issued by WHO in 1992. Beside the Slovenian book version of ICD-10, the results will also be our own version of ICD-10 codes on the magnetic media, with possibleinclusion of additional subclassifications into the codes. In this way we will enable the comparison of Slovenian health statisticaldata with the data of the other WHO members, who intend to start using ICD-10 on 1st January 1995.
