Abstract     Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) is caused by different sexually transmitted microorganisms (STD). Some cases of NGU appeared to be a consequence of bacterial urinary tract infections, bacterial prostatitis, urethral strictures, phimosis, or follow different diagnostic procedures. Among the most prevalent sexually transmitted agents of NGU seems to be Chlamydia trachomatis. The prevalence and the incidence of chlamydial infections may differ esentially, they are specially high in selected population groups at high risk of infection. The assessment and efficient treatment depend on good laboratory diagnostic methods for NGU.
