Abstract     Cyclosporin is a highly effective and selective immunosuppressant. It has been proved effective in the treatment of severe psoriasis and atopic dermatitis in adults. The disorders that respond to cyclosporin are inflammatory in nathure and are mediated by T cell. The paper summarizes the results of studies concerning the efficacy of cyclosporin in the most severe forms of atopic dermatitis in adults and children. The recommended dose of cyclosporin is 5mg/kg/day for 6-8 weeks. Unfortunately, the disease usually recurs when this therapy is stopped. Long-term therapy with gradual reducing of dose is preferred; the maintenance dose ofcyclosporin is 2.5-3mg/kg/day. Cyclosporin should be used only under the supervision of an experienced dermatologist, full knowledge of all its potential side effects is essential.
