Abstract     A hospital enteric infection is usually a diarrhoe which appears in patients who are not incubating but are treated in the hospital for more than 72 hours. Mostly the diarrhoe lasts for 3 or more days with 2-3 loose stools daily. The hospital enteric infection is transmitted by hands directly or indirectly, by food an water, by diagnostic instruments or is a consequence of antibitotic therapy. In sporadic and epidemic hospital enteric infection the cause of the diarrhoeal disease should be identified as soon as possible, the epidemiologic measures should be undertaken and the hygienic behavior should be controlled, especially the hand hygiene and the use of gloves. In every diarrhoea in the hospital the noninfective etiology should be ruled out.
