Abstract     Normal and balanced food intake of a patient with infectious diarrhea shortens the duration of the disease, relieves the course of the disease and prevents a prolongation of the disease. Because of this, it is necessary for the patient suffering from an acute infections disease to have an appropriate diet to maintain as possible normal nutritional condition and hydration of the patient. During the infectious diarrhea, the absorption of all food substances is normal, thus a special diet for the patient is not necessary. Only the intake of sucrose or edible sugar (cane or beet sugar) should be restricted. Patients also often suffer from fresh milk intolerance. Also the intake of coffe and/or of drinks with caffein content should be limited.
