Abstract     The lower urinar tract dysfunction in the elderly, and particularly incontinence, is prevalent but neglected. it may affect up to 20% of elderly people in the comunity, and up to 40-50% of hospitalised and instituionalised populations. Apart from urological and urogynaecological factors neurologic impairment and immobility lead to such dysfunction as particularly important causual agents, which need to be appropriately diagnosed. Understanding the pathophysiological concepts of lower urinary tract function, its dysfunction in the geriatric patiets may be rationally approached, and can often be ameliorated or cured without invasive tests with conservative measure.
