Abstract		This paper deals with procedures, principals and methods of cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, and methods of fighting against insects and rodents in households. Particular emphasis is placed on the significance of cleaning objects and surfaces to reduce the possibility of development of germs, insets and rodents. The use of physical and biological methods has advantages over the use of chemical means, but since they have no absolute effects, they have to be supplemented with chemical means. This maximises the effects while minimising the possible environmental pollution. Directions are also given to prevent poisoning of people and animals with disinfectants and means of destroying insects and rodents. The paper also presents the most common mistakes in the non-expert use of veterinary medicines, the consequences of these mistakes and the way in which we remove them. A special supplement provides tables which list disinfectants, insecticides and means for suppressin rodents on sale in Slovenia. The tobles also list the manner of use, the concentration and the producer.
