Abstract     Short survey of the influences of dust on life and environment as well as on the working environment is given. The consequences of increasing emission of anthropogenic dust sources on environment are stressed and the effects on man, vegetation and atmosphere as well as on the production sphere are discussed. Attention to the synergism of dust with other pollutants in air is paid. Definitions of different types of dust, some typical distinctions to gases and vapors, the measures for the air pollution by dust and classification with respect to the influence of dust on men are given. Threshold limits and their signification are mentioned. Principles of strategies and technical measures against dust are given. Risks of dust explosions as well as explosion characteristics of dust, principal measures of explosion prevention and prevention of damages caused by dust explosions are described.
