Abstract     Of the many problems possessed by the Sharpei dog, tight lip syndrom is one of the most common. The manifestations of this syndrome can be seen as a retrusion of the lower lip over incisor teeth. The degree of lip retrusion into the mouth varies from slight to as much as three centimeters beyond the incisors, and is constant both during rest and mastication. This is accompanied by constant soft tissue traumato the lower lip by the incisal edges of the incisors. The constant pressure of the lip between the incisors radically inclines the lower incisors posteriorly while moving the uppers incisors anteriorly. The results is a severe malocclusion resembling brachygnathism.
