Abstract		Basic principles of anaesthesia of rodents, birds and reptiles are described. Several animal species which are to be considered differ greatly in anatomy and physiology. Therefore various anaesthetic drugs and a proper anaethetic equipment are necessary. General anaesthesia is preffered for most purposes and may be induced and maintained with volatile agents or induced with injectable drugs and maintained with volatile agents or injectable drugs alone.
