Abstract     Urine stones disease is fairly common and often the cause of serious complications, especially in overweight men whose diet primarily consist of meat and dairy products. Prevention measures include good hydration, restriction in calcium and oxalate intake, and the use of prescription medicaiton. Mineral water Radenska Kraljevi vrelec (Royal well) is a natural mineral water rich in sodium, calcium and hydrogen carbonate, which has been used by people of the Pomurje region for over a hundred years. Epidemilogical studies have shown a reduced prevalence of urine stones in the region. Two prospective comparative studies have been conducted; the first included healthy volunteers, the second, on the other hand, patients with previous history of oxalate urine stones. During the period the subjects were drinking mineral water, the urine volume (p<0.05) as well as its pH values (p<0.05) increased significantly. There was also a significant decline in urine calcium (p<0.05) and oxalate (p<0.05) while the drop in magnesium was insignificant. The mineral water had a wholly favorable effect on urine contents, which indicated a diminished risk of crystallization.
