Abstract     The ability of CT in diagnosing a residual or recurrent of malignant glioma was studied in a retrograde fashion. The study was conducted in two groups of patients. In the first group were 25 patients (19 male and 6 female) who were treated by surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and intratumoral application of interferon. Patients age ranged from 15 to 66 years.15 patients had anaplastic astrocytoma and in 10 glioblastoma were diagnosed. In the second group were 25 patients (13 male and 12 female) who were treated only by surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Their age ranged from 10 to 60 years.18 patients had glioblastoma and 7 anaplastic astrocytoma. The following CT parameters were analysed: lesion density, the presence of calcifications, opacification following i.v. contrast application, the presence of necrosis and edema, and narrowing and displacement of the liquor places. The results showed in both groups of patients that either plain CT or CT following i.v. application of contrast are not reliable in diagnosing the residual or recurrent malignant glioma. CT scans following therapy were not specific enough to allow the diagnosis of residual or recurrent tumor, but were, by our opinion, rather related to morphologic changes in the brain parenchyma induced by therapy.
