Abstract		The Medical Center - Ljubljana is the largest medical center in Slovenia with about 7000 employers. There are more than twenty different departments. Emergency laboratory services is one of them. It covers 50% hospital activity and 20% ambulant activity. At emergency sector we installed laboratory information system (LIS) in decembre 1994. Application software developed in the Hospital central informatics services under MS-DOS environment, using a Clipper and own made subroutine packages. The LIS is based on a network of 11 personal computers. One PC server as a data hub that makes it feasible to aquire data from six anaysers. 10 PC serve as worstations. With this approach we wont to optimize work processes in a laboratory and improve the efficiencly of personnel in the laboratory section. We also made some organizational changes. Our studies hawe shown the information technology adoption has reduced paper flow in the laboratory and thet organizational changes has influenced an the time of blood test validation.
