Abstract		For successful protection of reproductive health, a wholesome health strategy is needed, with defined ways of implementation and deciding as individual targets. Thus, a continuous monitoring and analysing of health indicators and health care in reproductive age is necessary, especially of maternal mortality rate, abortion rate, incidence of extrauterine pregnancies and others. Maternal mortality (MM) is the most sensitive and effective indicator of women health care quality in reproductive age. In spite of effective reduction of MM in THE lat two decades, the profession and society have to tackle the suppression of causes and the ensuring of conditions for a more successful action on the domain of perinatal health care.
Summary		Za uspešno varovanje reproduktivnega zdravja je potrebno zagotoviti celovito zdravstveno strategijo, ki ima za posamezne cilje opredeljene načine izvajanja ter ukrepanja. S tem namenom je potrebno kontinuirano spremljanje in analiziranje kazalcev zdravstvenega stanja in zdravstvenega varstva v rodnem obdobju. zlasti stopnje maternalne umrljivosti, splavnosti, incidence zunajmaterničnih nosečnosti ter drugih. Maternalna umrljivost (MU) je najbolj občutljiv in učinkovit kazalec kakovosti zdravstenega varstva žensk v rodnem obdobju. Kljub učinkovitemu zmanjšanju MU v zadnjih dveh desetletjih se mora stroka in družba spoprijeti z odpravljanjem vzrokov in zagotavljanjem pogojev za uspešnejše delo na področju perinatalnega zdravstvenega varstva.
