Abstract | Nowadays aproximately every hundredth pregnant women is a cardiac patient with a hereditary or acquired heart disease. The majority of these patients can get pregnant and give birth but they need to be - for a timely intervention in the case of a complication - carefully controlled by the gynecologist and cardiologist during pregnancy, delivery and afterwards. Nevertheless, there is still a group of cardiac patients where the possibility of life threatening complications during pregnancy is so great that the pregnancy is contraindicated.
