Abstract     In this paper, we will present a case study for a Hospital Information System (HIS) in Greece. The aim of this study is the extended and detailed description of the way a hospital operates, with regard to its administrative as well as medical functions. The result of this study was a hospital information model aiming to the best medical material utilisation, in order to eliminate data redundancy. The major advantage of this model is the fact that it creates a general view of the global hospital structure. In this study, we worked on the karamandanion children hospital of Patras in co-operation with the Department of Computer Engineering and informatics of the Unviersity of Patras. Another advantage of the specific model is that it is quite easily applicable to larger medical institutions, despite their size. Although the desing of the HIS for the case of the Karamandanio Childen's is not an innovative approach to the current HIS methodology, it is significant to study the way in which the theoretical design can be applied to practical development for the actual needs of hospital pracise. Such issues are going to be discissed next in this paper.
