Abstract     Extracting accurately the microcalcification from digital mammography is the critical step to classify the breast disease. Up to now, it is difficult to extract directly the shape of microcalcifications inmammograms. Thus, applying the digital image precoessing techniques on a mammogram are necessary to convert it into a simple form before prosecuting segmentation algorithm that detect microcalcifications by thresholding method. In this article, a Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) criterion is proposed to evaluate the optimal values of unknown parameters of image processing technique. Our experimental results show that the more the area below ROC curve of a procesed image is, the best the extractionof microcalcification in a mammogram detection algorithm will perform.
