Abstract     A computer-based software system metaHuman-96 (MH96) has been proposed that helps physicians with especially difficult cases of medical diagnostics. The MH96 is constructed as an intelligent statistical data processing system. In order to derive the solution for a problem of medical diagnostics, modern methods of the theory of statistical pattern recognition are used in the system (various methods of the discriminant analysis). The MH96 contains five integrated subsystems, including a database management subsystem, a subsystem of signal processing, a subsystem of primary data processing, a base of diagnostics methods. A physician with the minimal level of statistical background can properly use the system. In order to provide this, a metamethod is included in the system. The metamethod helps a physican to select an appropriate statistical method for data analysis (a method of diagnostics can be chosen automatically by the metamethod). The algorithm for the metamethod is considered in the paper. All statistical methods availabe are described in a similar way. The metamethod execuset all methods with the same sample taken from input data and selects one which has the minimal error rate. The system has an open architecture. Any new methods of diagnostics can be added by a user with the help of dynamic link libraries. The database management subsystem of the MH96 allows to aphysician to configure, to create and to edit databases with various structures. The system allows to store and to proces a multichannel signal information.
