Abstract     The role of maxillar morphology in the development of pathological septal deformities was suggested by numerous authors. The subjects with asymmetrical nasal floor showed more severe septal deformities than others. Resently Salyer showed that "the deviated nasal septum ordinarily appear in cleft lip / palate nose", but did not give precise data about the types of deformity nor about their incidence in cleft lip / palate patients. The Authors investigated 114 children with unilateral lip / palate clefts. To observe the incidence of pathological septal deformities Mladina's classification was used. The control group consisted of 923 non-cleft children. The overall incidence of pathological septal deformities was found to be significantly higher in cleft children than in control group (63% and 27.4%, respectively). Types 5 and 6 were seen most frequently (20.1% and 36.8%, respectively). Type 5 was found much frequently in more posteriorly positioned clefts, whereas type 6 showed high incidence in those positioned more anteriorly. In the control group types 5 and 6 were seen very seldom (up to 5.4% and 3.7% respectively).
