Abstract | Numerous experimental and epidemiological studies have revealed the relationship between elevated blood cholesterol and the development of atherosclerosis. The first recommendation in prevention of atherosclerosis is avoiding weight gain due to excessive dietary fat intake. Saturated fat should not exceed 10% of daily energy intake and the daily intake of cholesterol should be less than 200 mg/d. The bulk of dietary energy should be contributed by cereal grains and vegetables with a generous supply of fruit as snack-food. In addition, regular body exercise and ingestion of an above-average amount of antioxydants such as vitamin E and vitamin C is recommended to protect vulnerable lipoproteins from peroxidation. Also, avoiding trans-fatty acids is recommended, as well as avoiding all visible fat except in the form of salad dressing oils. Fatty spreads, cheeses and milk should be avoided. | |
Summary | Številni poskusi in epidemiološke študije so pokazale povezavo med povišano koncentracijo krvnega holesterola in razvojem ateroskleroze. V preventivi ateroskleroze najprej priporočamo preprečevanje zviševanja telesne teže zaradi maščob. Najbolj pomembno je skrčiti vnos nasičenih maščob pod 10 % dnevno zaužite energije in vnos holesterola pod 200 mg na dan. Glavni del energije je treba pokriti z žitnimi izdelki in zelenjavo in z obilico sadja kot dodatnimi dnevnimi obroki. Priporočamo redno telesno aktivnost in uživanje nadpovprečne količine antioksidantov, npr. vitamina E in C za varovanje občutljivih lipoproteinov pred oksidacijo. Izključiti moramo transmaščobne kisline, vidne maščobe lahko uživamo le v obliki solatnih olj. Ne smemo uživati nobenih mastnih namazov ali sirov. Pijemo lahko le posneto mleko. | |
