Abstract		Morphological and pathophysiological balloon angioplasty induced changes in the arterial wall are described. Morphological changes include events in the vessel endothelium, atheromatous plaque, arterial wall intima and media. Pathophysiological changes include events at the histological level and influence vessel wall repair by different mediators. We discuss the influence on vessel wall changes after precutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) due to balloon dimensions, plaque shape and plaque constitution. The problem of restenosis and success of repeated PTA are discussed.
Summary		V prispevku so prikazane morfološke in patofiziološke spremembe žilne stene po perkutani transluminalni angioplastiki (PTA). Morfološke spremembe obravnavajo dogajanje na žilnem endotelu, ateromski lehi, notranjem sloju (intima) in srednjem sloju žilne stene (medija). Patofiziološke spremembe obravnavajo dogajanje na histološki ravni in vpliv različnih posrednikov proces reparacije žilne stene. Razpravljamo o vplivu velikosti balona ter sestave in oblike ateromatozne lehe na spremembe žilne stene po PTA, o vzrokih ponovnih zožitev in uspešnosti ponovnih dilatacij.
