Abstract     In the field of pharmaceutical technology bioadhesion is usually described as the ability of drug delivery systems to adhere on mucosa. There are two components involved in bioadshesion: bioadhesive polymer in drug delivery system and glycoproteins in mucus that covers the surface of mucosae. Each component contains structural elements and functional groups which enable intimate contact, chain interpenetration and formation of weak chemical bonds. As a consequence, the adhesion of drug delivery system on mucosae of different internal tracts occurs. It is the aim of the article to present an overview of achivements in the area of bioadhesion from different points of view. The description of molecular and physico-chemical properties of technological and biological components is given first. This topic is followed by an explanation of bioadhesion mechanism, whereas the method which were developed for evaluation of bioadhesion phenomenon are presented in the final part of the article.
Summary     Pojem bioadhezija, kot ga razumemo v farmacevtski tehnologiji, se najpogosteje nanaša na sposobnost farmacevtskega pripravka, da se adherira na sluznico. Komponenti, ki pri tem sodelujeta sta bioadhezivni polimer v farmacevtskem pripravku in glikoproteini v mukusu, ki pokriva sluznico. Vsaka od komponent vsebuje strukturne elemente in funkcionalne skupine, ki omogočajo tesen stik med njima, interpenetracijo njunih verig in tvorbo šibkih kemijskih vezi. Posledica teh procesov je adhezija farmacevtskega pripravka na sluznico v različnih delih organizma. Članek podaja literaturni pregled dosežkov na področju bioadhezije. Najprej podaja opis lastnosti tehnoloških in bioloških komponent, nato pa predstavi mehanizem bioadhezije. Bioadhezivne sposobnosti farmacevtskih pripravkov in polimerov je potrebno tudi ovrednotiti, za kar so bile razvite različne metode, ki so predstavljene v zadnjem delu članka.
