Abstract     There are numerous negative consequences of the present model of medical studies. Research has shown that candidates for the study of medicine can be broken down into two groups. The first consists of those who are "humanistically" oriented. Among other things, they are characterised by a total view of the patient, owing to which they also consider the mental and social aspects of the appearance and course of diseases. The other groups is characterised by a "scientific" orientation, such that their primary focus is on those activities which happen within the organs and cells. Before being accepted to medical schools the ration of these groups is 3:1, while later this ratio is reversed.
