Abstract     The goal of analytical toxicologist is to identify and quantify pharmaceuticals, drugs and other toxicologicaly relevant substances in biological specimens and other samples. As many important decisions are based on these results, they should be reliable as possible. As elsewhere, mistakes occur also in toxicological analyses and could be divided in two types. Error in scientific measurement means inevitable uncertainty that attends all measurements. But this uncertainty in measurement should be differentiated from mistake in a cognitive process. A case of intoxication with midazolam, diclofenac, atropine and lorazepam is used to illustrate the pitfalls in toxicological analyses, followed by some more general thoughts on the subject.
