Abstract		In the paper, the author attempts to describe the difficulties of insuring doctors' professional responsibility, which is in no way a new problem, as professional responsibility has been an issue in medicine from the very beginning. In the treatment process, Slovene doctors are faced with inseparable legal and moral responsibilities. The patient as an increasingly important factor in this process requires from doctors an incrasingly sharp sensiivity to their responsibilities, while the possibility of insuring their professional responsibility allows doctors more relaxed working conditions and thus fewer errors. New themes have appeared in the field of insuring the profesional responsibility of doctors which follow similar trends in the developed world and offer the patient compensation in the case of possible errors in the treatment process, while doctors are insured against excessive demands for compensation. In the field of insuring the professional responsibility of doctors, Slovene insurance companies have already established certain mechanisms and have gained some valuable experience.
