Abstract     Two high resolution electroencephalography (HR-EEG) technologies were tested in the spatial enhancement of P20-N20 complex to medianP20-N20 complexof median-nerve somatosensory-evoked potentials recorded (128 channels) from two normal subjects. These technologies were based on the estimate of the surface Laplacian (SL) and spatialdeconvolution (SD) of the potential on realistic magnetic resonance-constructed scalp surface model and multicompartment head volume conductor model, respectively. The SL and SD estimates produced a nearly equal spatial enhancement of the frontal P20 and parietal N20. With respect to the original potential distributions, the SL and SD distributions presented more circumscribed maxima located closer to the contralateralcentral sulcus. These data are consistent with known origin of the P20-N20 complex in area 2b of primary somatosensory cortex.
