Abstract | Surgical lesion of the dorsal root entry zone (DREZ) carries a risk of damaging the large diameter fibers at segmental level, the posterior columns and the corticospinal tracts. We performed the cervical DREZ lesions with the assistance of an intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IOM) which consisted of: 1 - segmental somatosensory evoked potentials (SEEPs) recorded at Cv6 level from a subdural electrode in order to monitor the large diameter fibers and the activity of dorsal horn neurons: 2 - conducted somatosensory evoked potentials (CSEPs) recorded at Cv3 vertebral level from an epidural electrode in order to monitor the dorsal columns function; 3 - motor evoked potentials (MEPs) recorded from a Th2 epidural electrode in order to monitor cortico-spinal tracts activity. We report the results obtained in the first 2 patients. | |
