Abstract     Results from a veriety of recent studies on spinal recurrent inhibition present a number of challenges to conventional views of its functional organization. To illustrate the nature of these challenges, findings in humans dealing with the pecular organization joints are reviewed. This includes the functional relationship between spinal recurrent inhibition and Ia pathways, which seem to operate as functionally convergent systems at the ankle but partially divergent at the wrist joint.
