Abstract     Objektive. The freedom to choose personal family physician can serve as a quality indicator and a measure of patient satisfaction. The patients select primary care providers according to the level of satisfaction. We tested two hypothesis: 1. The majority of patients choose the same doctor they used to see before mandatory registration. 2. The level of patient satisfaction is one of the main reasons to select a personal family physician. Design, participants and setting. We used a questionnaire based on experiences from the field and from the literature. 100 consecutive patients from three family physician offices took part in the survey. The patients answered following items: what their first contact with the personal family physician, which characteristics of their doctor, of his office and of his office organisation influenced their decision. Results. The majority of patients (70,4%) have chosen the same physician they visited before. In 14,4% patients recommendation of patients's relatives, friends or media influenced their decision to select certain physician. The overall satisfaction in interviewed patients was very high with greater levels in older patients (p = 0,004). The patients gave their personal physicians the highest scores for the time they provide during the consultation (90,9% of patients consider this very important issue), friendliness (74,5% of patients consider this very important issue) and professional attitude (88,2% of patients consider this an important issue). Physician's readiness to do home visits also played an important role in selecting personal family physician. This indicates the selection was made on the basis of patient satisfaction with primary care provider.(Abstract truncated at 2000 characters.)
Summary     Izhodišča. Pravica do svobodne izbire zdravnika bolniku omogoča, da svoje zadovoljstvo z zdravnikom, njegovo ambulanto in organizacijo dela uporabi v praksi. Po pričakovanju naj bi se bolnik odločil za tistega zdravnika, s katerim je zadovoljen. Predvidevali smo, da bo večina bolnikov izbrala istega zdravnika, kot ga je obiskovala doslej, in da predstavlja poglavitni razlog za izbiro osebnega zdravnika zadovoljstvo z delom zdravnika družinske/splošne medicine. Prieksovanci in metode. Da bi to preverili, smo ankteriali bolnike v treh ambulantah splošne medicine. Uporabil sem priložnostno anketo, ki je nastala na podlagi izkušenj in izsledkov dosedanjih raziskav. Bolnike smo spraševali o tem, kako so prišli prvič v stik z njihovim sedanjim osebnim zdravnikom in o tem, katere lastnosti pri njem, v njegovi ambulanti in pri organizaciji dela najbolj cenijo. Rezultati. Z raziskavo smo ugotovili, da je večina (70,4%) bolnikov izbrala zdravnika, ki ga pozna že prej. S tem je potrjena prva hipoteza. Pri 14,4% bolnikov pa je na odločitev pomembno vplivalo priporočilo znance, sorodnikov, drugega zdravnika ali javnih občil. ugotovil sem visoko stopnjo skupnega zadovoljstva, ki narašča z leti (p = 0,004). Bolniki so med lastnostmi, ki jim pomenijo največ pri njihovem osebnem zdravniku družinske/splošne medicine, najviše ocenili to, da si zanje vzame dovolj časa (90,9% jih meni, da je zanje to zelo pomembno), da je prijazen (74,5% jih meni, da je to zelo pomembno) in dober strokovnjak (88,2% jih meni, da je to zelo pomembno). Pri njihovi izbiri igra zelo pomembno vlogo tudi zdravnikova pripravljenost opravljati hišne obiske. To kaže na to, da so se bolniki zavestno odločili za zdravnika, s katerim so bolj zadovoljni, s čimer je uspelo potrditi tudi drugo hipotezo.(Izvleček prekinjen pri 2000 znakih.)
